The watering system in Enztal which has almost been forgotten in recent years was professionally revised on the basis of a thesis. The plan was to reactivate the old watering system in the flood plains of Roßwag. Almost all the old official water rights have been relocated. The former water master was interviewed as part of the thesis and questioned about his work. The watering system meant that the farmers were able to improve their harvest returns by almost a third, not only during those months when little rain fell. The system was also used for melted snow and to spread nutrients. The extensivation contracts that exist with many farmers today mean that it is no longer possible to increase harvest returns by means of artificial fertilisers, as a result the interest in watering systems is growing again. Waterfalls, water valves and water ditches need to be made functional again. The project is due to start in autumn 2006 with the support of Ensinger Mineral-Heilquellen GmbH.
